Women’s footy team chase referee before hurling punches over penalty controversy

A football club from the Democratic Republic of the Congo has gone viral after they chased a referee for failing to award them a penalty during a match.

The incident occurred between female team DC Motema Pembe and Mazembehas, while DC Motema Pembe were trailing 5-1. Pembe players were left irate when they believed the penalty had been missed, causing the comedic scenes.

The referee can be seen trying to escape the players, and she looks to take shelter off the side of the pitch. However, the women are able to catch up with the referee – unloading kicks and punches.

And a fourth tweeted: "The players involved in this barbaric act should be fined and banned from playing football by the appropriate superior authority. This is unacceptable and it is against soccer ethics!"
