Jack Wilshere leaves Arsenal fans in suspense after cryptic Instagram post of himself training – with many desperate for him to return to the Emirates

  • Jack Wilshere has been without a club since his release by Bournemouth in May
  • Wilshere has been training with Arsenal since October to build match fitness
  • The Gunners are currently light in midfield due to AFCON and suspension

Is Jack Wilshere heading for a return to Arsenal? Well many of their supporters hope so.

Wilshere, who left the Gunners in 2018, has been training with the club at their London Colney base since October – having been released by Bournemouth at the end of last season.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has so far been unable to strengthen midfield – with his loan pursuit for Juventus’ Arthur Melo ongoing.

And on Wednesday night, Wilshere got Arsenal fans’ tongues wagging over his cryptic post.

Uploading three pictures of himself training on Instagram, Wilshere captioned them with two hourglass emojis.

This got Arsenal fans speculating that the 30-year-old could be set for short-term deal at the Emirates.

One fan simply wrote: ‘Those emojis, don’t tease us.’ Another wrote: ‘Sign da ting! Lol.. #worstkeptsecret’

The reaction on Twitter was identical to Instagram, with fans excited about his possible return.

Wilshere’s Instagram post got fans excited about a possible return to Arsenal this window

One Arsenal fan wrote on Twitter: ‘Looks like it’s happening, he has been training with us for a while now… I’m not sure how much he has left in the tank but prime Wilshere was top class.’

Another Arsenal supporter wrote: ‘Please be what we think it is. He’s better than [Mohamed] Elneny and [Granit] Xhaka and always gave 110 per cent whenever he played. No announcement just in the squad tomorrow.’

The likelihood of the wish for Wilshere for the latter is unlikely with Arsenal hosting Liverpool in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Thursday night.

Arteta will be without Granit Xhaka due to suspension, while Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey are missing due to Africa Cup of Nations duty.

This means the Spaniard is light in midfield, although Martin Odegaard is back in training after recovering from Covid-19.

Those emotions were matched on Twitter with Wilshere still a firm fan favourite at Arsenal
