Bruno Lage revealed Willy Boly sensationally chose to boycott Wolves’ draw with Newcastle, despite being selected for the matchday squad, in a bid to force a move away.

Wolves last week rejected a bid from Nottingham Forest for the 31-year-old but Lage made plain that Boly, who has been on the bench for the opening three league games, has no interest in remaining at Molineux with five days remaining of the transfer window.

‘He’s been a great professional but he’s trying to force something,’ Lage said.

‘Look, Boly was in the squad list but he didn’t come. He was in the squad.

‘I have a good relationship with him and he has a proposal in his hands and he wants to go.

‘He is being a top professional but I said, “look, I understand you want to move but understand I need a top player like you on the bench”. After that Boly took his own decision.’

Asked if the defender will face punishment for his no-show at Molinuex, Lage wouldn’t be drawn.

‘No, let’s see what happens,’ he added. ‘Things happen today but what is more important is this, he was in the squad list but he didn’t come.’

Manager Bruno Lage is frustrated the transfer window remains open, adding to the uncertainty

Lage hit out at the transfer window being open with the season underway due to the uncertainty it causes but remains hopeful a striker can be brought in between now and when it closes.

Wolves have managed just two goals from their opening four matches and here again was another painful reminder of the need to give more help to Raul Jimenez.

‘I have been waiting for the new striker since my first day here,’ he added.

‘When you talk about the squad and the good things in our squad, I think we have a lesson to learn. We were in good moments, playing very well but we drew the last two games (at home).

‘We are still looking for the best solution to bring competition to Raul and bring another solution. We can see (Aleksander) Mitrovic with four goals, (Erling) Haaland with six, we see it, we need at least two good strikers in our team and we are working so hard to find that player.

‘I have plenty of confidence the player will arrive.’
