Will Lampard lay down the law at Chelsea with his brutal fines AGAIN?

£2,500 for being late, £1,000 if your phone goes off and £5,000 for taking your own car home from a game! Will Frank Lampard lay down the law at Chelsea with his brutal fines AGAIN?

  • Frank Lampard has returned to his role as Chelsea manager on an interim basis
  • It comes after Graham Potter was sacked with the club languishing in 11th place
  • Lampard introduced a brutal set of player fines in his first spell in charge

Returning Chelsea boss Frank Lampard introduced a punishing set of fines in his first spell in charge, with players charged up to £20,000 for being late.

Lampard has rejoined the club as interim manager following the sacking of Graham Potter, with the new boss taking over just two years after he was sacked from the post.

He guided to the side to fourth in his first spell in charge and took them to an FA Cup final, but struggled to get the best out of big players such as Timo Werner.

The 44-year-old was notoriously strict with his players before leaving the club in 2021, and a list of 12 fines he imposed has again been shared widely online following his re-appointment.

They include a £2,500 for being late on a matchday, £1,000 for a phone going off during a team meal and £20,000 for missing the start of training.

Frank Lampard has returned to Chelsea as interim manager until the end of the season

His previous spell in charge saw him implement a rigorous set of player fines

It not yet clear if Lampard will bring back such extreme measures after returning to the club on Thursday, but players did seem relaxed in his presence during his first training session at Cobham.

There were smiles from those who will know him well such as Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic, while Enzo Fernandez gave little away and Mykhailo Mudryk chatted deeply with the new boss.

For Lampard, the decision to return to the club where he has achieved much of his success in football seemed straightforward.

Speaking to the media moments after Chelsea officially confirmed his return, he said: ‘[It was] a surprise in terms of you never know the decision the club are going to make.

The returning boss admitted being ‘surprised’ that he was asked back by the club

‘But it was easy decision for me, this is my club. I’m also a very practical person.

‘I’ve been on a different path since I left Chelsea but to come back when I’ve been asked and I come back with a belief that I can help until the end of the season.

‘I’m delighted to get the opportunity and I’m thankful. I’ve a good understanding of the squad, the training ground, the stadium and the fans and I’ll do my best.’

The Blues will next be in action against Wolves on Saturday, before a real test for Lampard when they come up against Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter final next Wednesday.
