Wigan Athletic have confirmed the signing on Steven Caulker until the end of the season

The Championship club announced the news in a Twitter post on Monday night

Wigan announced the news of Caulker’s arrival late on Monday evening, with the 31-year-old returning to England after spending the last four years in Turkey.

Caulker moved to Alanyaspor in January 2019, and has also played for Fenerbahce, Gaziantep and Fatih Karagumruk during his time in the country. He was released by Karagumruk when he contract expired at the end of 2022.

He is now back in his country of birth, having originally come through the ranks at Tottenham.

Caulker broke into the Spurs first-team during the 2012-13 season, and was handed his England debut in November 2012. He scored for the Three Lions, but ultimately ended up on the losing side as Roy Hodgson’s men were beaten 4-2 by Sweden.

After falling out of favour at Tottenham, Caulker had a loan spell at Cardiff before being snapped up by QPR.

Further loans at Southampton and Liverpool followed, before he tried his luck in Scotland at Dundee.

It turned out to be a short-lived spell north of the border before he moved to Turkey.

Caulker has since switched international allegiances to Sierra Leone, and made his debut for the African nation last year.

Following confirmation of his switch to Wigan, Caulker will wear the number 29 shirt, and he could be in line to make his debut when Toure’s team take on Cardiff on Saturday.
