What Cristiano Ronaldo has said about Man Utd return as he nears transfer
Cristiano Ronaldo looks set to re-join Manchester United after leaving the club in 2009.
Ronaldo left Old Trafford when he moved to Real Madrid for a then world-record fee of £84million.
His final Red Devils appearance came in the 2009 Champions League final as United fell short to Pep Guardiola's rampant Barcelona.
Since he left, Ronaldo has won five Ballon d'Or's as well as four Champions League's, two La Liga's, and two Serie A titles.
However, he always held the club close to his heart after he honed his skills in Manchester that helped him become of the best players in history.
Eight months on from becoming Los Blancos' latest Galactico, Ronaldo told News of the World: "Of course I miss playing for Manchester United.
"I played there for six years and that’s a long time. I am still interested in watching Manchester United and, you never know, maybe in the future I could return to play there."
He echoed his desire to return to English football in an interview with Sky Sports in late 2010: "You never know in the future, maybe I’m gonna be back to England again."
He repeated those claims a year later to the same outlet: "Why not? I hope so one day, but you never know."

2013 saw Ronaldo's first return to Old Trafford, four years after he had left Sir Alex Ferguson's side.
Following the Champions League clash, he said: "I really miss English football. For me, it was one of the best years in my career when I was there in Manchester United."
Ronaldo has expressed his love for Manchester numerous times, most notably in an interview with MUTV in 2014.
And he always refused to rule out a return to Old Trafford.
"In football, you never know what will happen tomorrow," he said in 2015 about a potential move.
That quote is particularly relevant now with Ronaldo looking bound for the blue half of Manchester on Thursday evening.
However, after a whirlwind 24 hours, Ronaldo now looks set to move back to the Red Devils after 12 years away.
