West Ham’s £15m new star Danny Ings ‘has been given an injection in a bid to speed up his recovery from a knee injury’ – with the striker facing three weeks out after suffering the knock just ’30 SECONDS into his debut

West Ham striker Danny Ings has been given an injection in his knee in a bid to speed up his recovery from injury.

The new £15million signing was initially ruled out for several weeks after suffering an injury to his left knee just 30 seconds into his Hammers debut, as they sealed a 2-0 victory over Everton.

The 30-year-old striker had only joined West Ham just 36 hours prior to his injury, dealing them yet another blow as they look to turn their season around.

David Moyes’ side have now reportedly given Ings an injection in order to help his recovery, according to The Sun.

The medical team are now waiting to assess his reaction to the jab before they can determine the outcome, with it now looking more likely that will be ruled out for three weeks.

It is the same knee which has previously required surgery, though West Ham are confident this is not linked to his history of unfortunate ligament injuries.

Ings was ineligible to face Derby County in the FA Cup’s fourth round this weekend regardless, but he is also expected to miss two crucial Premier League games against Newcastle and Chelsea.

There is hope he will be fit to face Tottenham away on February 19 but, failing that, Nottingham Forest at home the following week is seen as a realistic target.

Ings was brought in to add competition and provide cover from Gianluca Scamacca – who is also currently struggling for fitness.

Boss Moyes is therefore reluctant to leave the club’s only-fit striker Michail Antonio leave – despite him admitting his desire to join a new club.

Michail Antonio is considering leaving the east London club this January, with talks ongoing

The 32-year-old has been considering a January exit with the club’s all-time Premier League top scorer sparking interest from Everton and Wolves, among others in the market for a goalscorer.

Speaking on The Footballer’s Football Podcast yesterday, Antonio said: ‘Honestly, I’ve not ruled anything out. That’s all I’m going to say.

‘There are talks, so whatever happens, happens. I’m not saying goodbye. I’m saying if it happens, it happens. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t.

‘I won’t be upset about staying. I’d definitely be upset if I leave because I’ve enjoyed my time here but football is football.’
