West Ham have reignited their interest in Burnley’s versatile winger Maxwel Cornet after growing frustrated with their pursuit of Eintracht Frankfurt’s Filip Kostic.

Manager David Moyes had considered Cornet earlier in the window but had opted to pursue other targets including Kostic.

However, the rising costs of a deal for the 29-year-old Serbia international are proving too rich for West Ham and they have switched to the younger Cornet.

The 25-year-old Ivory Coast international has had offers from Nottingham Forest, Everton, Fulham and Newcastle United but has yet to strike an agreement.

Cornet, who scored nine goals last season after joining Burnley from Lyon, has a £17.5m release clause but it is understood that has to be paid in one instalment or Burnley will look for a £25m fee.

Fulham had proposed to pay £5m for an initial loan with a further £20m should they stay in the Premier League.

Everton also proposed a loan while Forest thought they had an agreement with Burnley over the fee but couldn’t find agreement on personal terms.

Moyes is ready for West Ham to make it a permanent deal despite some early reservations about previous injuries as he wants cover at left-back and on the wing.

Talks have also hit an impasse with Lille over a deal for midfielder Amadou Onana and Moyes does not want to leave it too long into the season before adding to his relatively small squad, particularly after allowing Arthur Masuaku to join Besiktas on loan.

Meanwhile, Burnley are looking to replace Cornet with Manuel Benson from FC Antwerp. The 25-year-old is due for a medical ahead of agreeing a four year deal.
