West Ham cat kicker Zouma to appear in court just days after Europa League final

Kurt Zouma will appear in court just days after the Europa League final – which could spark a major West Ham distraction should they reach the spectacle.

Zouma will appear before the Barkingside Magistrates' Court on May 24 after being prosecuted under the Animal Welfare Act. Last month, the RSPCA announced their intention to prosecute Zouma, who was filmed kicking and slapping his pet cat.

The footage – which was captured by his brother Yoan Zouma – went viral in early February. His cat was seized by the RSPCA. Like Kurt, Yoan is a professional footballer, and he has also been prosecuted under the Animal Welfare Act.

Zouma's court appearance has been scheduled for six days after the Europa League final, which is set to be held on May 18 in Sevilla.

However, before West Ham return to Sevilla, they have to navigate a tricky tie with German side Eintracht Frankfurt. Frankfurt earned a spot in the semi-finals when they shocked the world against Barcelona at the Camp Nou.

The Hammers, on the other hand, are flying after convincingly beating French giants Lyon in France.

Zouma has only made four appearances in the Europa League this season, and the Frenchman warmed the bench for the majority of the group stage.

The Frenchman's appearances have mainly come in the knockout rounds, but he wasn't in the squad for their trip to France.
