West Brom edge closer to appointing Carlos Corberan as their next boss

West Brom edge closer to appointing Carlos Corberan as their next manager following departure of Steve Bruce… with the former Huddersfield boss set to beat Jody Morris to the post

  • He endured an ill fated spell with Olympiacos in Greece but returns to England
  • Carlos Corberan has beaten Jody Morris to the post after impressing in talks

West Bromwich Albion are close to agreement with Carlos Corberan to become their next manager.

The 39-year old left Huddersfield Town at the end of last season after taking them to the Championship play-off final and then had an ill fated spell with Olympiacos.

However, he has emerged as Albion’s favoured candidate after two rounds of talks. A number of contenders have been interviewed in the process to replace Steve Bruce who was sacked earlier this month while Albion’s U21s coach Richard Beale has been in caretaker charge.

Carlos Corberan, who guided Huddersfield to the play off final, is set to take over at West Brom

Former Chelsea assistant Jody Morris was also interviewed but Corberan is expected to be confirmed this week.

Corberan will replace Bruce with West Brom sitting 23rd in the table, one spot above his former side, Huddersfield, who prop up the league.

Bruce oversaw a significant decline in results this season with the relationship between club and supporters becoming increasingly strained.

The Spaniard, however, worked wonders in taking Huddersfield to within a game of the Premier League last season on a shoestring budget and the West Brom board will be hoping he can work similar miracles with a squad that is rich in quality and experience.

The 39-year-old will take over from Steve Bruce following the veteran manager’s sacking earlier this month

With only 10 points separating them and Reading, who are in sixth, they will not feel their season is over – far from it.

With games coming thick and fast, Corberan, should he be appointed as expected this week, will have plentiful opportunities in the coming weeks to turn West Brom’s fortunes around.
