Karim Adeyemi was heavily linked with Liverpool in the dying embers of the summer transfer window – and recent social media activity has given Reds fans instilled belief that they may well get their man soon.
Adeyemi, 19, joined Salzburg in 2018 after spending six years at German third-tier side SpVgg Unterhaching.
In an unlikely career path, Adeyemi went from the German lower leagues to Salzburg, where he was immediately sent on loan to feeder club Liefering – shining in his spell in the outer suburbs of Salzburg.
Moving back to the senior side properly in the 2020-21 season, Adeyemi scored nine goals in 38 games as he made his mark at Europe’s most renowned talent factory – earning interest from across Europe.
And after playing for the German national team last week – scoring on his debut against Armenia and becoming the first German to play for his country whilst at an Austrian club – Adeyemi’s stock is higher than ever.
So much so that it will be a pleasant surprise for Liverpool fans that his social media activity is Reds-centric after his current form.
After a photograph of Harvey Elliott was posted on the Englishman’s Instagram following his saddening injury against Leeds United on Sunday, Adeyemi commented “Get well soon bro”.
An act of kindness from a player who is of similar age and reputation to Elliott was more heartfelt if anything – but it hasn’t stopped fans becoming excited about a potential transfer.
His reply has been liked by more than 1,400 people, with many taking the time to message the German starlet.

User Duncangeraldes replied with more of a hypothetical situation, stating: “When you signing up young man, looking forward to your goals with @trentarnold66 & @andyrobertson94 supply, in front of @harveyelliott07 & @thiago6 . Klopp will elevate you to Balon (sp) D’or level we all know that!”
Whether Adeyemi will become a Ballon d’Or level player is yet to be seen, but if Liverpool fans sign him then he could well be.
Adeyemi missed a penalty on Tuesday evening as Salzburg drew to Sevilla in one of the most bizarre games in Champions League history.
Four penalties were given in the first half, with one scored by either team – although Salzburg missed two as the game finished 1-1.
The two are competing with Lille and Wolfsburg in a competitive group in a bid to progress to the round of 16.
