A racehorse’s owners have been left embarrassed and forced to change its name after a definition was discovered on Urban Dictionary.

The two-year-old filly’s name gathered plenty of interest after it was discovered following its maiden run last month.

Punters discovered the name that had otherwise been overlooked by the syndicate who clearly had no idea what the term meant.

The owners of the horse have since been forced to change its name from Tarpup after the meaning was discovered.

A simple search of ‘tarp up’ into Urban Dictionary brings up the definition: 'same expression as “wrap it before you tap it”', meaning to put on a condom.

Reaction to the filly’s name caused a stir on Twitter as others clocked onto the moniker.

What did you make of the horse’s name? Let us know in the comments section below

One comment from a clued up punter read: “Had a little giggle when I noticed this… very clever." Whilst a reply to that quipped: “Tarpup was 100% effective”

Another joked: “Were the ear muffs pink and fluffy?” With one more posting: "Should have been saved for a colt's name."

“Won’t see a better named winner today. Well played Marc Quinn racing,” said another fan who found the name funny.

The Marc Quinn-trained horse has also caught the eye out on the track, after it won its debut race at Port Macquarie last month, landing $27,000 in the Port Macquarie Return, proving as the comment said to be 100% effective so far.

Since the horse’s name has come to light, it has been renamed as Bomarea, with a quick browser search on Urban Dictionary not bringing any secondary meaning to the word.

Bomarea is set to race again on Friday (May 12) in the Inglis 2yo Challenge at Scone Racecourse in New South Wales. It remains to be seen whether the horse can continue its 100% winning record after the name change.
