Vitor Pereira’s record in full from sackings to relegation as Everton make move

Everton could make former Porto and Fenerbahce boss Vitor Pereira their fifth permanent manager in less than four years following the sacking of Rafael Benitez.

The 53-year-old, who was sacked by Fenerbahce in December, might have no Premier League experience but has taken the lead at nine different clubs since his breakthrough at Sanjoanense in 2004.

Everton fans have been left disillusioned by their ownership following another poor run of form, having lost Carlo Ancelotti to Real Madrid in the summer.

The new boss will be tasked with trying to steer the club away from the relegation zone and towards potential European qualification, and Daily Star Sport has analysed Pereira's full managerial record.

After his retirement from amateur football at the age of just 28 in 1996, the Portuguese had spells with youth sides at Padroense and Porto before his first senior role.

Pereira took over at Sanjoanense in the third division winning nine of his 24 matches before joining Espinho, where he was sacked 10 games into his second season.

Then returning to Porto's juniors, he stepped back into management with Santa Clara in the second division, narrowly missing out on promotion twice with 34 wins from 73 fixtures.

Leaving Santa Clara in the summer of 2010 to become assistant to Andre Villas-Boas at Porto, he was promoted to head coach after his colleague left to join Chelsea in the Premier League.

Although Porto underachieved in trying to retain their Europa League and Portuguese Cup titles from the previous season, Pereira did lead the club to Primeira Liga glory.

Another league title in 2012/13, which brought his tally to 65 wins from 93 fixtures – he left the club for talks with Everton – before ending up joining Al Ahli in the Saudi Pro League.

Following a runners-up spot in the King Cup of Champions and 19 wins from 37 matches, Pereira joined Olympiacos and won the Super League Greece and Greek Football Cup in 2014/15 despite being in charge for only 27 games.

Pereira then signed up for a first spell with Fenerbahce, who cut ties with him in August of 2016 ahead of his move into the German 2. Bundesliga with 1860 Munich.

1860 Munich finished third from bottom and were relegated after a play-off loss against SSV Jahn Regensburg.

In December of 2017 he replaced Villas-Boas for a second time, this time with Shanghai SIPG, and guided them to their first ever title in the division – before further links to Everton.

His most recent job was a second spell with Fenerbahce, were he was sacked back in December after slipping 14 points behind league leaders Trabzonspor after 11 wins from 25 matches.

What's next for Pereira? Fabrizio Romano reports that the 53-year-old will be in England on Monday to meet with the Everton board – with staff and contract details to be discussed
