Vincent Aboubakar was sent off for a second yellow card after scoring a shock late winner against Brazil and taking his shirt off in celebration – but it won't matter with Cameroon out in the group stage.

The Al Nassr forward was the hero in a memorable victory for Rigobert Song's men despite them finishing third in Group G two points behind both leaders Brazil and runners-up Switzerland.

Having lost to a single goal against Switzerland, Cameroon fought back to draw 3-3 against Serbia before managing to beat Brazil who hadn't conceded across their first two group outings as Aboubakar nodded home in the closing stages.

Taking on a much-changed Brazil side on Friday evening (December 2) Cameroon forced Ederson into action during a first-half which ended goalless.

With Brazil failing in their attempts to open the scoring, Aboubakar gave Cameroon fans something to cheer with minutes remaining to end their tournament on a high.

Seeing the funny side to his blunder, the 30-year-old shook the hand of the referee and smiled as the left the field of play to applause, with his team-mates hanging on to victory.

One former professional who wasn't in such a happy mood was Chris Sutton, who slammed the forward in his role as a BBC pundit for the tournament.

He said: "That's one of the dumbest things I've ever seen. I can understand his excitement but he has to keep his emotions in check. Now he's been sent off."

He then said of the performance in general: "Cameroon don't deserve to go through with this performance." And of the striker: "He's been absolutely hopeless all evening but what a header."

Ngom Mbekeli's perfect cross was headed past Ederson by the former Porto forward for his 35th international goal and second of the tournament.

Cameroon still had a slim chance of qualification before the red card, by Serbia's failure to get a point against Switzerland ended their chances for good.

Those results mean Brazil will take on South Korea with Switzerland up against Portugal, with England taking on Senegal on Sunday.
