New footage has revealed Lionel Messi’s reaction to Emiliano Martinez’s late heroics in the World Cup final.

Famed for his composure in big game moments, the 35-year-old didn’t even flinch as Martinez denied France forward Randal Kolo Muani in the footage shared by Twitter user stopthatmessiii.

Argentina looked on course to secure the famous trophy for a third time without facing much resistance after Messi and Angel Di Maria gave them a 2-0 lead before half-time.

However, despite a lethargic start Didier Deschamps’ side, inspired by the heroics of Kylian Mbappe, mounted a comeback late in the game with the PSG star scoring twice to force extra-time.

Messi looked to have secured his footballing legacy as he once again put La Albiceleste ahead, before his teammate at the Parisian club once again scored to equalise with just minutes remaining.

With the World Cup in the balance, France had a golden opportunity in the dying moments of the game to take the lead through Kolo Muani, but the Eintracht Frankfurt striker was denied by Martinez, with the Aston Villa stopper later paying tribute to his save with a tattoo.

Without missing a beat, Messi remains calm and collects the ball on the halfway before spraying it forward as his side attempted one final attack.

Messi would then take his country’s first spot kick, casually rolling the ball beyond Hugo Lloris in the France goal.

Martinez would then deny Kingsley Coman from twelve yards to further etch his name in Argentinian footballing folklore as Lionel Scaloni’s side triumphed in the shootout.
