  • He believes West Ham will receive multiple offers for Bowen during the summer
  • He says Erik ten Hag should prioritise Bowen when he rebuilds the United squad
  • Bowen has scored 18 goals and registered 13 assists for West Ham this season

Andy Townsend says Manchester United should make Jarrod Bowen their top priority during the summer transfer window as he believes the West Ham star has ‘been so good lately’.

Bowen – who is said to be paid £60,000 a week by the Hammers on a deal that runs until 2025 – has caught the attention of several Premier League giants after scoring 18 goals and registering 13 assists for West Ham this season.

As a result, Townsend thinks Erik ten Hag should prioritise signing Bowen when he rebuilds the Manchester United squad after taking over the reins from interim manager Ralf Rangnick.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Townsend said: ‘Jarrod Bowen has been great. He’s been so good lately.

‘I bet you West Ham get a bid or two for him in the summer. Would you have him [at Manchester United]? Like a shot you should be saying.

‘He can play anywhere. I’ve seen him play up the middle for West Ham, on one side. For your lot [United], he’d get in your team wherever he likes! I would play him off the right-hand side.’

Bowen could be set for an England call-up from Gareth Southgate during the summer

A host of Premier League clubs have been vying over Bowen’s signature and it comes as no surprise considering the 25-year-old became the first Hammer since Paolo Di Canio to reach double digits in both goals and assists this season.

Bowen also helped West Ham secure another season of European football by scoring against Premier League leaders Manchester City in their 2-2 draw at the London Stadium on Sunday.

Additionally, Bowen could be set for an England call-up from Gareth Southgate for June’s Nations League games after missing out on the opportunity in March due to a heel injury.

However, Townsend thinks it will be tough for Bowen to secure a place on the plane to the World Cup in Qatar later this year as he believes ‘most of the seats are already taken’.

He said: ‘He’s a good player, Jarrod Bowen. Should he be on the plane? He probably won’t get on the plane, will he? It’s just happened a bit late and I think that most of the seats on that plane are taken.

‘With all of the players at the top of the field that Gareth has got to choose from, I don’t quite see him getting on the plane unless he features in some of these Nations League games and plays unbelievably well.

‘But he’s a dangerous boy, there’s no doubt about that.’
