Euro 2020 gets underway this evening with Italy taking on Turkey in Rome in the tournament’s opening fixture.

Roberto Mancini’s side are unbeaten in their last 27 fixtures, a run stretching back to 2018, and will hope to avoid a setback on home soil to kick-start their campaign.

Turkey, meanwhile, are another nation tipped to enjoy success and even took four points off France in qualifying. They will perhaps be the surprise package in Group A and a win over a rampant Italy would underline that.

Sportsmail‘s DANIEL DAVIS will provide live Euro 2020 text coverage of Turkey vs Italy – including the score line, line-ups, build-up and the opening ceremony.

Those tipping Italy to get their campaign underway with a comfortable win tonight will probably end up very wrong come around 10pm.

That’s because Turkey have proven equally difficult to beat, and they have picked up some brilliant results against the world’s best.

Senol Gunes and his team have lost just three times in 26 matches, and France were unable to down them at home or away in qualifying.

Turkey also beat Holland 4-2 back in March, with Lille ace Burak Yilmaz and the ever-creative Hakan Calhanoglu catching the eye.

After one too many disappointing finishes at tournaments, they will hope to do better this time around.

Having lost just two of his 30 games in charge of Italy, Roberto Mancini really has stepped up for his country at just the right time.

The last time they suffered defeat was back in 2018, and all the ingredients are in place for them to look to challenge for the trophy this summer.

Of course, they will want to avoid a slip-up tonight, but Italy, who will often be in front of their supporters, look a real force again.

Good evening, all! Welcome along to Sportsmail’s live coverage of Euro 2020’s curtain-raiser as Italy take on Turkey.

We’ve had to wait a whole year for the tournament but finally it’s time to get this summer feast of football on the road – and what a way to kick things off this is.

Italy are the favourites to top Group A and will fancy their chances. They’re on a 27-game unbeaten streak and look rejuvenated under Roberto Mancini.

Their squad is a perfect blend of experience and youth, and they have unsurprisingly been tipped to go far in the competition.

Turkey, meanwhile, are definitely one of the dark horses to keep an eye on. They’re stubborn defensively and hold quality in all the right areas.
