Tuchel left "angry" by Premier League decision not to postpone Chelsea clash

Thomas Tuchel was left "angry" by the Premier League's decision not to postpone Chelsea's clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

The fixture was just one of four matches to go ahead in the league this weekend following six postponements due to Covid outbreaks at clubs as the Omicron variant causes continued disruption.

Chelsea had made a request to the Premier League for their match on Sunday to be added to the list of postponement's following a number of positive test results in their squad.

However, the request was rejected and the match went ahead on Sunday afternoon as originally scheduled.

Tuchel was less than impressed with the decision, voicing his frustrations ahead of the match at Molineux.

"It is exactly like this, we thought we had a strong case regarding the security and health of players," explained the Chelsea boss.

"We have seven positive cases, we were made to be in the bus and travel together for three hours, were in a meeting together, in dinner and lunch and the situation does not feel like it will stop if we keep on doing this.

“We applied to not play and put the situation under control and it was rejected. It is very hard to understand it, we are very concerned about the health of the players.

“We end up with players who play coming from injuries and we take the risk.

"I am worried from a medical point of view, we have had four days of consecutive positive tests. How will it stop if we are in a bus together and in meetings together if we pretend it is not happening?

"We are disappointed, we are a bit angry."

While Chelsea were still able to name a strong starting line-up for the match, Tuchel could only include six players on his substitute bench.
