Thomas Tuchel has stated that Christian Pulisic’s biggest problem at Chelsea is that he knows the sort of impact he can have from the bench due to their time together with Borussia Dortmund.
The Blues saw off the challenge of Everton with a 2-0 victory on Monday evening, but their United States international forward would only enter for the final few minutes.
There has been plenty said about the relationship between Tuchel and Pulisic because of their spell together with Borussia Dortmund, during which time the winger played a limited role.
The 22-year-old, who scored 13 goals during his 51 games under Frank Lampard, has managed only seven during his 63 appearances under Tuchel in Germany and England.
When asked about the lack of playing time for Pulisic, Tuchel said: “Yes, I can say nothing else but good things about him. Maybe his biggest problem is that I know him from Dortmund and I think he started only in the cup games.
“It is my responsibility and it is a bit unfair but I know what impact he can have in the last 20 or 30 minutes. He was a bit unlucky in the last few games.
“It isn't a lack of trust or quality, it is just that he will have to be patient. I have another guy who I would love to mention in Emerson who suffers from bad decisions by me.
“He does not play but he is an amazing guy who trains at the highest level and he never lets the team down with his mentality. It was a super hard decision today to have him out of the squad, the same with Tammy.
“It is like this, we have a strong group. The guys have to keep on fighting. There's no other way.”
Lampard had regularly praised the ability of Pulisic during their time together, as he did again at the start of the current campaign.

He said: “He found his feet very quickly and had a breakthrough season in the Premier League where he produced more goals and assists than he’s ever produced.
“His performance last year was massively impressive on his own. He will get better and better because he’s a young player and I never doubted Christian."
