Plaudits have poured in across social media for England’s Lionesses after they beat Australia 3-1 in the World Cup semi-finals.

In a Syndey cauldron, Sarina Wiegman’s side turned in a magnificant performance and now they are just one World Cup final against Spain from writing their names as victors in the ledger of history. 

Football royalty could only express joy and admiration in the wake of their achievement.  

Beth Mead, who is missing the tournament due injury, showed her support by tweeting: ‘WORLD CUP FINAL BABBYY, GET IN’ accompanied by three party face emojis. 

Other absent Lionesses celebrated. Leah Williamson shared a photo of her Sarina Wiegman-themed cap with the caption ‘C’aaaamon then’, while Fran Kirby applauded Lauren Hemp’s performance with clapping and heart eye emojis.

Gary Lineker weighed in with a tribute, writing: ‘Well played @Lionesses. Absolutely superb performance. A World Cup final. A World Cup final at football. It’s been a while. What a wonderful achievement.’

The last time England had a senior team was in 1966, when the men’s team won the competition on home turf.
