This time next week, Premier League teams will be scrambling to put the final touches on their squads on transfer deadline day. With just seven days left, the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea are still hard at work looking to pull off ambitious deals, with both incomings and outgoings on the agenda.
Manchester United transfer chief John Murtough’s next few days is likely to centre around striking a deal for Ajax forward Antony. Erik ten Hag is desperate to reunite with the Brazilian, with whom he worked in Amsterdam last season, but the Dutch giants will only play ball if their huge asking price is met.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s future could also shape the Red Devils’ season with the Portuguese yet to find a new club after reportedly asking to leave last month. A host of top sides have distanced themselves from Ronaldo and he can add another to the list as of today.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are focused on a signing a new defender and a new striker before September 1 as co-owner Todd Boehly explores a number of possibilities.

Ronaldo snubbed again
Cristiano Ronaldo will not be moving to Marseille this summer, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
That’s despite reports claiming that the French outfit could represent one of his last options having asked to leave Manchester United in pursuit of Champions League football.
Marseille are said to be ‘disappointed’ with the rumours as the lucrative deal wouldn’t fit with their project.
Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich and Chelsea have all flirted with the idea of signing Ronaldo this summer before ultimately distancing themselves from the six-time Ballon d’Or winner.
Chelsea backed to hijack £63m deal
Ex-Chelsea defender Jason Cundy has urged his former side to match Newcastle United’s offer for Real Sociedad forward Alexander Isak.
Barring any late twists, the Magpies look set to complete the £63million signing after their bid was accepted on Wednesday.
The Blues are on the hunt for a new forward and have recently been linked with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
“What a good player [Isak] is,” Cundy told talkSPORT. “I have to say now, I would not be unhappy if Chelsea signed him at all. He’s a lot of money, he’s had a lot of moves considering his age and he hasn’t quite done it, but I think he’s an absolute superstar in the making.
“I think it’s a big, bold move. It’s top-end. He’s worth it in my opinion. Bags of pace, he’s physical – about 6ft 4in, quick, he’s had a tough time with injuries but this is a proper player, this kid.”
Man Utd’s Antony bid
Manchester United launched what could be their final bid for Ajax winger Antony on Wednesday night, according to De Telegraaf.
After months of tracking the player, Erik ten Hag will hope that an offer in excess of £75million will do the trick and finally tempt his former side to do business.
If accepted, the deal could move quickly with the 22-year-old begging Ajax to cooperate, having already broadly agreed personal terms and scouted out possible houses in and around Manchester.
