Conor McGregor wants to see Katie Taylor’s proposed rematch with Amanda Serrano take place at Ireland’s iconic Croke Park, and has offered to sponsor the event to make it happen.

Taylor and Serrano were involved in a fight-of-the-year contender last April, with the former emerging victorious via split decision on an unforgettable night at Madison Square Garden.

There have since been talks over a second fight between the pair, with May 20 being identified as a potential date for the bout to be made, but Taylor’s promoter Eddie Hearn recently ruled out Croke Park as the venue due to the substantial security costs involved.

McGregor has not given up hope of the fight ending up at Croke Park, though, and made a tempting offer on Twitter on Friday night.

‘The extra security bill is 500k to have Katie Taylor fight at Croke Park? I will sponsor the event to see this happen,’ McGregor tweeted.

Hearn responded to McGregor’s post with ‘let’s talk’, suggesting that the UFC star’s proposal could be doable.

Croke Park holds 82,000 fans and would be a fitting venue for Taylor, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters that Ireland has ever produced.

She won five world championships and an Olympic gold medal as an amateur, before turning professional in 2016.

The 36-year-old has gone on to win world titles in two weight classes, and is the current undisputed champion at lightweight.

Serrano provided her with one of the toughest tests of her career last year, and a rematch is a mouthwatering prospect.

Serrano is due to fight on Saturday night against Erika Cruz as she looks to become undisputed champion at featherweight.

If she comes through that clash, talks are likely to intensify for another showdown with Taylor, and if McGregor gets his way, that match-up could be heading for Croke Park in May.
