With the Premier League season now officially underway, many top-flight clubs have had the first taste of the things they are missing within their squads. As a result it’s now very much scramble time, with transfers expected to come thick and fast as deadline day approaches.

Manchester United got their season off to a disasterous start with home defeat to Brighton, and their lack of both firepower and an anchor in the centre of midfield is glaringly obvious.

Elsewhere, Chelsea failed to flatter as they scraped a 1-0 victory over Everton, with Thomas Tuchel himself admitting at the final whistle that more signings are almost certainly needed.

Tuchel and Erik ten Hag aren’t the only managers pushing for more backing in the summer transfer market, meaning plenty more deals could be done over the coming weeks.

Frenkie De Jong latest

Manchester United and Chelsea are still in the running to sign Frenkie De Jong, but Barcelona continue to drive a hard bargain.

Barca president Joan Laporta has again spoken out on the midfielder’s future, stating: “Frenkie’s our player and we want him to stay at Barcelona, he wants to stay too. With him and his teammates, we have a very powerful midfield. He has offers, but we want him to stay at the club.”

Barca are supposedly keen for De Jong to take a pay cut if he is to stay with the club. While Man Utd have agreed an initial £63million fee, Chelsea are thought to his preferred destination due to Champions League football.

Chelsea exit

Chelsea flop Timo Werner’s permanent switch to RB Leipzig will be completed today, according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano.

The two clubs have already arrived at a full agreement, with personal terms locked in several weeks ago.

The German will become the second high-profile attacker to flee Stamford Bridge in a matter of weeks after Romelu Lukaku headed to Inter Milan on loan.

Werner struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League, scoring 10 goals in 56 matches.

Man Utd chase attacking duo

Manchester United’s bid for Bologna striker Marko Arnautovic won’t halt their interest in RB Salzburg youngster Benjamin Sesko, according to GOAL.

The Red Devils have seen a £7.2million bid rejected for Arnautovic, who scored 14 Serie A goals last season after three years in China.

And while manager Erik ten Hag seemingly views him as an option to bolster his attack, sewing up a deal wouldn’t put the brakes on interest in Sesko, who has caught the eye with a fast start to the campaign in the Austrian Bundesliga.
