The summer transfer window has only been open a couple of days but the Premier League’s elite clubs are already beginning to make their moves as they attempt to strengthen ahead of the new season. Liverpool are closing in on a mega swoop for Benfica’s Darwin Nunez, with an £85m deal expected to be confirmed in the coming days.
The Reds are not the only side expected to splash the cash, however, and their bitter rivals Manchester United have renewed hope that they can tempt Frenkie de Jong away from Barcelona after the midfielder reportedly changed his mind over a switch to Old Trafford.
Tottenham have already confirmed the signings of Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster, and are being linked with a whole host of other players, such as Middlesbrough wing-back Djed Spence, Everton forward Richarlison and Torino centre-back Gleison Bremer.
Meanwhile, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City also have a number of targets on their list, and it would be no surprise at all to see the Premier League spending record smashed by the end of the summer.
So, what will happen today? Keep an eye across all the latest rumours with Express Sport’s live coverage right here…
Richarlison curveball
Richarlison is expected to leave Everton this summer, with their narrow relegation escape reason enough to try and find a side fighting higher up the table.
The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain had all been linked with a move, but in a sudden twist, Tottenham are now in the equation for the £51m-rated star.
Not just that, but UOL’s Bruno Andrade claims that talks are at an advanced stage and Richarlison has already discussed his contract with Spurs.
Nunez set for Liverpool medical
Liverpool’s statement summer signing may not be too far away at all, with reports indicating that Darwin Nunez will arrive on Merseyside to carry out his medical next week.
The Benfica marksman was left out of Uruguay’s 5-0 demolition of Panama on Saturday as a precaution, so that there are no late hitches in his imminent transfer to the Premier League.
Everything has been agreed with the Portuguese outfit already, and the Reds are supposedly set to shell out a club record fee of £85million.
De Jong U-turn explained
Erik ten Hag is said to have told Frenkie de Jong that he is ‘planning to bring the good times back’ to Manchester United after promising his former player an integral role at Old Trafford, according to reports. The new Red Devils boss is looking to entice the midfielder into a summer switch from Barcelona and as of now, the signs are beginning to look very promising.
Initially, De Jong has made it crystal clear that his desire was to remain in Catalonia next season and beyond, despite United’s interest.
Yet with Ten Hag refusing to lie down, there is growing optimism that a deal is very much on the cards.
According to the Sunday Mirror, it’s Ten Hag’s personal talks with De Jong that have swung the balance.
