Tottenham have been warned that Richarlison could be snapped up by one of Europe’s biggest clubs as a matter of priority due to his influential performances for Brazil at the World Cup over the last few weeks. The Spurs forward has emerged as one of his country’s most important players in Qatar and will be firmly expected to keep providing the goods at international level as Brazil go in search of a record-extending sixth World Cup triumph.

Richarlison has chipped in with two goals in as many games for Brazil as their first-choice striker and will be looking to maintain his current form by scoring against South Korea in his side’s first knockout stage clash next week. However, it remains to be seen whether the player’s impressive exploits will attract any external interest in his signature when the January transfer window finally opens next month.

PSV Eindhoven chief Marcel Brands believes that Tottenham could face a battle to hold onto Richarlison in the not-too-distant future, with the 60-year-old telling NOS that he would not look out of place in attack for the likes of Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich.

“He has everything to be a top striker,” said Brands, who signed Richarlison for Everton during his time in charge of player recruitment at Goodison Park.

“He has length, speed, he is agile, can play in all positions in attack and is technically good. He can head exceptionally well, has tremendous jumping power and excellent timing in the air. He is also someone who works very hard for the team and still gets his return.

“Every goal he celebrates like it’s the winning one in the World Cup final, you see that at Tottenham too. That’s why he plays matches, to score goals. People often forget, but he works really hard. He is everything you want in a striker.

“He has become a man as a young player. He was already physically strong but has become much stronger and his will to score has developed even further. He could be playing at Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich as early as tomorrow.”

It remains to be seen whether Richarlison will be able to inspire Brazil to achieve World Cup glory in Qatar if he keeps providing the goods in front of goal between now and the end of the tournament. He is arguably the first name on Tite’s team sheet at present and will reprise his role as their main attacking outlet against South Korea if Neymar remains sidelined after picking up an injury in the group stages.
