Tottenham’s transfer plans for the summer window reportedly seem set to cause frustration for Antonio Conte. The Italian is understood to be seeking as many as eight new signings, but an overhaul on that scale is not something the hierarchy at Spurs are currently preparing for.

That is according to the Telegraph, who state that Conte views the changes needed at Tottenham as being ‘wide-ranging’. He believes that up to eight players need to be replaced with those more suited to his style of football.

Spurs though are said to be planning for a summer window that is much smaller in scope than Conte’s demands. Instead of eight players, they will ‘primarily’ target a new left-sided centre-back, with the Premier League side ‘not ready’ to fund the major overhaul Conte believes he needs.

The impact of funding a new stadium and playing under Covid restrictions means Spurs are in danger of frustrating Conte with an inability to fund the signings he wants. Instead, it appears the club are set up for a manager with a more long-term approach than the fiery Italian.

Conte has already hinted that it may be better for him to leave Spurs before the summer window. The former Chelsea boss made it clear that he wants to be fighting for the biggest trophies, something that still seems to be a way off for Spurs.

“In this moment, in our minds, me, the club and the players have to be focused on the last five games. I said to you a lot of times, at the end of the season, we speak with the club but with pleasure, in a really good way – to find the best solution for everybody,” he said last week.

“Don’t forget I like to have ambition, not only to fight for a place in Champions League or a place in Uefa [Europa] League. Honestly, I want to fight for much more, you understand? I deserve to do this – to fight for and win trophies, to fight for something important, not for only sixth or seventh, eight place or, if you have a fantastic season, fourth place.

“It will be very important to understand how much time we need to fight for something important – if we have the patience to wait because, for sure, this is a process. I always say to you that we need time and patience. And we have to understand how much time we need and how much patience we have.”
