Tottenham travel to face Manchester United on Wednesday looking to continue their best ever start to a Premier League season. Spurs currently sit third in the table, level on points with Manchester City, with the match at Old Trafford offering Antonio Conte’s men the chance to go second outright with the Sky Blues not in action during mid-week.

However, the Lilywhites’ preparation for the game has been beset by setbacks, especially after Richarlison picked up a calf injury in the 2-0 win over former club Everton. Here Express Sport details the current injury situation at the club as Conte looks to prepare his side to play the Red Devils.

Richarlison

The forward was forced off during Saturday’s win with a calf injury, something that will prevent any participation at Old Trafford. He was pictured in tears as he completed interviews with the Brazilian media following the match causing fears that the calf issue could cause him to miss weeks of action, potentially even missing the World Cup.

Conte has allayed these fears, confirming that the 25-year-old should not miss the showpiece in Qatar. However, he will be absent for the match against the Red Devils, with the Italian particularly keen to ensure he takes no risk with the player ahead of the tournament.

It remains unclear how long he will remain out for – but Spurs supporters will take heart from the fact the injury layoff should not be too long.

Dejan Kulusevski

There was more promising news regarding Kulusevski with Conte confirming the player was back in training. The Swede is the most likely replacement for Richarlison, capable of seamlessly fitting into the front three.

However, the 53-year-old is reluctant to risk the winger against United to avoid worsening his injury. As such it is unlikely that he will start in Manchester, with Conte expected to turn to a three-man midfield by bringing in Bissouma instead after the Malian’s impressive performance against Everton.

Japhet Tanganga

The Englishman is yet to see any match action in the Premier League this season – but has missed being involved in the last three match squads with a knock. He is unlikely to be involved again tomorrow as the Italian looks to other options instead.

Emerson Royal

While the right-back does not have any kind of injury issue, he will once again be missing from the squad against Erik ten Hag’s side as he serves the final match of his three-match ban for his red card against Arsenal. Matt Doherty has impressed in his absence and may expect to find himself in the starting line up in the longer term.

Predicted XI: Lloris; Romero, Dier, Davies; Doherty, Bissouma, Hojbjerg, Bentancur, Perisic; Son, Kane
