Tottenham star Richarlison in tears on Brazil bench despite team beating Bolivia
Tottenham star Richarlison was left in tears on the Brazil bench after being substituted during his country’s 5-1 victory over Bolivia. Richarlison led the line for his country in their World Cup qualifier, but as his side ran riot the 26-year-old drew a blank.
The pressure is firmly on Richarlison on both the domestic and international fronts and that pressure will furth increase after he failed to find the net against Bolivia. The number nine was left devastated on the sidelines after missing a chance to add to his international tally before being substituted.
The Tottenham star was replaced by Wolves striker Matheus Cunha after 71 minutes and watched on as Neymar scored his second goal of the match late on to conclude the qualifier. Richarlison signed for Tottenham from Everton last summer costing them an initial £50million with £10m in potential add-ons.
The Brazilian has scored just three goals in 37 Premier League games and all eyes are on him to improve. With Spurs unable to find a replacement for Harry Kane late in the transfer window Ange Postecoglou has been left with no alternative but to hope Richarlison’s form improves.
The Brazilian has failed to find the net in four Premier League appearances this season and replaced hat-trick hero Son Heung-min in their 5-2 win at Burnely before the international bench. Richarlison pleaded for patience after their 2-0 win at Manchester United – during a fantastic start for Spurs but not their number nine.
He told ESPN: “I think the fans have to be a little patient. It’s not easy to replace an idol like Harry Kane, that time is normal. Like it or not, a match in which I don’t score a goal, they’re going to miss him.

“He’s a guy who scored more than 200 goals for the club. It is to take as an example and try to score as many goals as possible with a Tottenham shirt. For sure, that’s why Tottenham paid dearly for me.
“That’s why they put me here, now it’s up to me, I have to do the job, I know my responsibility. We’ve been training and during training I’ve been doing well, scoring goals. I think it’s a matter of time for the goals to come out, there’s the harmony.”
