Harry Kane would be prepared to sign a contract extension at Tottenham if Daniel Levy can be convinced to insert a release clause, according to reports. The 28-year-old was denied the opportunity to join Manchester City during the summer transfer window in spite of his efforts to force through a move.

Kane reportedly informed Levy of his desire to leave Spurs at the end of last season, but the controversial 59-year-old was in no mood to let his star man go.

City saw two nine-figure bids rejected for the England skipper before last month’s deadline, with Levy said to have been holding out for at least £150million.

He managed to keep Kane in north London as a result of his firm stance, with the striker returning to Nuno Espirito Santo’s first-team picture after declaring that he would be staying towards the end of the window.

Kane is yet to score in the Premier League this season but netted twice in the Europa Conference League play-off win over Pacos de Ferreira last month.

It has been suggested that a new deal at Spurs could soon be on the cards after City’s failure to bring him to the Etihad Stadium over the summer.

However, Kane will demand that Levy makes an unprecedented concession in order to commit his long-term future to the club.

He wants the Spurs chairman to include a release clause that would prevent a similar situation from occurring again, according to Eurosport.

The report claims that Kane rejected the offer of a contract extension shortly after England lost the Euro 2020 final, but has since changed his stance and would be open to discussing fresh terms.

Levy has been reluctant to entertain the idea of release clauses during his time at Spurs, but an exception could be made for Kane if they can agree on a suitable valuation.

It is said that a new deal for Kane would also need to provide him with a significant pay rise, but not on the scale of what he would have received at City.

Personal terms were reportedly discussed with the Premier League champions before it became apparent that a move would be impossible to engineer.

Kane would have been in line to take home around £500,000 per week if all bonuses were triggered, a figure that represents a huge increase on his current wage.

The player’s representatives will stay in touch with Spurs over the coming months in the hope of finding an agreement to suit all parties.

Any new deal for Kane is expected to be similar in nature to the previous arrangement between Aston Villa and Jack Grealish, who joined City after his lucrative release clause was met during the summer.

However, it remains to be seen whether Levy will be prepared to meet Kane’s demands, with the Spurs academy graduate currently tied down until 2024.

He recently insisted that his reputation has not been tarnished by the situation that unfolded over the summer, declaring that he will be fully focused on Spurs for as long as he remains on their books.

“I was quite calm with the situation, but when you’re in it and you know the truth, then your conscience is clear,” Kane told talkSPORT last month.

“There’s always going to be noise. My whole career I’ve had ups and downs from when I was young to where I am, that’s just part and parcel of it.

“A lot of people that know me will say I’m a professional athlete who’s dedicated my life to this game and tha’’s what I’ll continue to do.”
