Former Liverpool forward Stan Collymore has urged Harry Kane to ‘stop moping’ and recapture his prolific form of old to stand any chance of joining Manchester City in January or when next summer rolls around. The 28-year-old was desperate to push through a move to the Etihad Stadium before last month’s transfer deadline, but was ultimately denied the opportunity to fight for Premier League titles with Pep Guardiola’s side.

Kane informed Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy of his desire to leave at the beginning of the summer window before City came calling with two nine-figure bids.

However, both of their offers were flatly rejected by Levy, who stood firm in his desire to keep hold of Kane for at least another season.

The England skipper went on to declare that he would be staying at Spurs via social media when it became apparent that a move to City would be impossible to engineer.

He remains under contract until the summer of 2024 and has reportedly been in talks over an extension as of late, but it remains to be seen whether he will push to join City once again in the near future.

Kane has made a poor start to the new Premier League season by his own lofty standards, with the forward yet to score in the competition.

He produced a largely anonymous performance against Chelsea on Sunday after Nuno Espirito Santo decided to start him on the left wing before he was moved back into a central position.

Collymore, who earned three international caps for England between 1995 and 1997, has since implored Kane to pick up his form and play like he did last season in order to reignite any lingering hopes of a big-money move to City.

“I told you about Harry Kane, didn’t I? He’s done at Tottenham,” Collymore wrote in his Daily Mirror column.

“But if he thinks downing tools or being moody will get him a move to Manchester City — or any other club, for that matter — in January or next summer then he’s very much mistaken.

“Clubs will pay the dough for a focused Kane but not a pale imitation of the goalscorer supreme who gets just 10 goals this season.

“So if he wants City to come again then he must stop moping and get about doing the business just as he always has done.”

Kane did not feature for Spurs at the start of the season, with his transfer situation only being resolved at the end of last month.

He returned to the side against Wolves at Molineux and has since played another three games for the north London club in the Premier League.

However, he is yet to find the back of the net and has only registered three shots on target since the beginning of the campaign.

Former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara recently claimed that Kane may even be holding Spurs back, suggesting that Nuno’s side played better in the striker’s absence.

“I look at his body language and look at the way he’s playing and he’s not playing very well,” O’Hara told talkSPORT.

“I kind of enjoyed Spurs at the beginning of the season when he didn’t play. I know that sounds bad because he is a great player and he is someone who you need in your team.

“But he’s come back into the team and we can’t win. When it was [Steven] Bergwijn, [Lucas] Moura and [Heung-min] Son up front, we sat in, we were composed, we soaked up the pressure and tried to hit teams on the counter attack.”
