Tottenham plot savage double Southampton transfer raid after relegation horror
Tottenham are reportedly lining up a summer swoop for James Ward-Prowse following Southampton’s relegation to the Championship with goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu also said to be of interest. The bottom-of-the-table Saints’ fate was finally sealed last Saturday when a 2-0 home defeat to Fulham confirmed they would be playing Championship football next season.
That’s why it comes as no surprise that clubs are already lining up moves for some of Southampton’s star players – not least Ward-Prowse who has snubbed plenty of top-flight interest in the past to remain loyal to his boyhood club.
The Mail are now reporting that Tottenham, West Ham and Aston Villa are all in the mix for his signature this summer when the Southampton captain looks set to depart.
Spurs have previously shown interest while Aston Villa actually saw a £25million bid rejected by the South Coast club.
Ward-Prowse’s current Saints deal is not thought to include a relegation clause that could see him leave for a cut-price meaning any potential buyers will have to negotiate with St Mary’s chiefs.

Tottenham have been light on the ground in central midfield in the final stretches of the season having lost Rodrigo Bentancur to a serious knee injury in February.
Yet it appears Ward-Prowse may not be the only Saints player of admiration as The Mail are also reporting that the north London club could launch a £15m raid for goalkeeper Bazunu.
The Republic of Ireland international has divided opinion this season following a string of shaky displays having also won his side a fair share of points.
Bazunu joined Southampton in a £15m deal including add-ons from Manchester City last summer having previously shone for Portsmouth on loan.

Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris looks set to depart at the end of the season meaning Spurs are in the hunt for a new No 1 goalkeeper.
Express Sport revealed on Monday that Mislav Orsic is set to lead the mass summer exodus at Southampton having played just six minutes of Premier League football.
The Croatian international winger joined the club for £8m in January from Dinamo Zagreb and now he could return to his former club, who are proposing a loan deal.
Negotiations remain ongoing between the two clubs although Dinamo seem unwilling to overpay for the 30-year-old, whose stock has undeniably plummeted.
Turkish side Trabzonspor are also in contention for Orsic’s signature as he prepares to seal a swift exit from English football.
Kyle Walker-Peters and Romeo Lavia are also expected to be moved on at the end of the season as they would generate serious cash.
Manchester United and Chelsea have previously shown interest in the England international full-back, who can play at either right or left-back.
Meanwhile, Manchester City have a buy-back clause for Lavia and they can also match any bid that lands for their former academy starlet.
