- He was initially in talks with PSG, although negotiations eventually collapsed
Tanguy Ndombele has reportedly agreed a loan deal away from Tottenham Hotspur at his former side Lyon for the rest of the season.
The midfielder arrived in France on Sunday evening ahead of departing Spurs where he has struggled since his 2019 summer move.
According to The Athletic, the deal is thought to also include an optional purchase clause of £54million at the end of the campaign.
Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele arrived in France to seal his loan switch to Lyon
The French side had initially targeted Tottenham’s Giovani Lo Celso but he is talking to Spanish side Villarreal.
Ndombele was in talks over a move to Paris St Germain last week who wanted him to link-up with his good friend Kylian Mbappe.
PSG had been keen to offload Leandro Paredes as part of a swap deal but that was soon rejected. Talks had looked to be heading in the right direction at the end of last week but ultimately broke down with Tottenham looking for better terms.
Lyon had been looking for midfielders after losing the versatile Bruno Guimaraes to Newcastle United for £33m and lined up Brest’s Roman Faivre for £12m.
Ndombele has failed to impress Antonio Conte and is set to leave Spurs on a short-term deal
However, they still wanted another option and agreed a deal with Spurs for Lo Celso before he turned them down amid interest from La Liga’s Villarreal.
Lyon then asked about the prospect of signing Ndombele and expect to finalise terms today with the potential for a buy option in the loan agreement.
Tottenham have also agreed terms with Spanish side Valencia over a loan for winger Bryan Gil who has failed to make any impact since his arrival from Sevilla. The 20-year-old also had interest from Porto who sold Tottenham target Luis Diaz to Liverpool.
Meanwhile, Levante and Brighton are among the teams showing an interest in signing Tottenham defender Joe Rodon on loan.
