Tottenham hero Gareth Bale left wanting more from Ange Postecoglou after start
Gareth Bale is glad to see his former side Tottenham on the rise under Ange Postecoglou and wants to see them continue their strong start to the campaign to challenge for silverware this season. It’s been a frustrating few years for Tottenham fans with managers coming and going since Mauricio Pochettino was dismissed.
Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte all failed to get Tottenham back challenging towards the top of the table. Last season’s eighth-placed finish was their worst league campaign since 2009, although they did reach the Carabao Cup final that season.
Morale was low among supporters with Postecoglou tasked with trying to turn things around and his task was made that bit tougher when Harry Kane left for Bayern Munich on the eve of the new season starting. But the former Celtic boss has managed to flip the mood around in north London with an impressive start to the campaign with Tottenham playing free-flowing attacking football.
Three wins from their opening four games with 11 goals scored has put Tottenham on an upward trajectory to start the campaign. Bale, who retired from professional football earlier this year, is loving what he’s seeing from Postecoglou’s Tottenham side.
And the Welshman wants to see his former club build on their strong start to put their past disappointments behind them. “Yeah definitely, and it’s great to see,” he told Sky Sports.
“We’ve got the style back, and that was probably something the club was looking for and seeing how he played and performed at Celtic. They’ve had a great start and hopefully there’s still more to come from the team and they keep getting better and better with the new manager and the new kind of style.

“Hopefully they get themselves up there are give themselves a chance.” A disappointing Carabao Cup exit to Fulham immediately hampered their chances of winning silverware this season.
But Postecoglou has brushed off the defeat, insisting he’s looking at the long-term to try and build a winning attitude at Tottenham. He told talkSPORT: “Us winning a Carabao Cup and finishing 10th is not what I think this club is about and that’s not dismissing the Carabao Cup because I want to win every game – trust me, I was disappointed on that night as well but that’s not the end-game for me.
“It’s not about winning something for the sake of winning something, it’s about building something and that’s what’s driven me through my whole career. I want to build clubs who have sustainable success with supporters going into every season feeling good about their prospects and watching their team play good football.”
