Tottenham hero David Ginola has told his former club exactly what they need in order to compete following their win over Newcastle. Goals from Tanguy Ndombele, Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son were enough to see off the Magpies, who had gone ahead through Callum Wilson’s early strike.

The win moves Spurs up to fifth in the Premier League, following what has been an inconsistent spell of form.

Boss Nuno Espirito Santo continues to face questions for his suitability for the job, with the club’s transfer strategy also regularly criticised.

The opponents on Sunday recently underwent a takeover that will give them access to more than £300billion worth of funds.

And Ginola believes that as a result, Spurs owner Joe Lewis and chairman Daniel Levy will have to put more investment into the club.

“The team is going to be fine. You look at this new era Newcastle and you think about Spurs, will it be enough in terms of money to invest in players?” Ginola told Sky Sports.

“To attract players too, because it is also important and vital for a club to be able to attract players, it is not only having the money.

“If a player does not want to come and sign and play for you, there is no chance for you to play with the best players.

“They have all the infrastructure to be a great club, but now they need to be able to attract the best players, without enough money you will not be able to do so.

“So, it’s important for Spurs to find some more money to compete against the best because I can’t believe I’m talking like that.”

Ginola also cautioned his former club that they must keep hold of the likes of Harry Kane in order to compete for trophies.

“If you want to be the best club around, then you need to keep your best assets,” the former winger added.

“First of all, your striker, the one who scores the goals for you. You have the goalkeeper, the centre-back, a midfielder, a playmaker.

“But what is vital for a club who wants to be one of the best is your striker, so you have your Harry Kane contract, I would say Heung-Min Son as well, because they are crucial in the game of Spurs.”

He also called on the Tottenham hierarchy to pump more money into transfer moves, with the club having already built a new stadium and upgraded their training ground.

“The least you can do if you invest that kind of money on your stadium, your training ground is to put a smile on the face of your fans,” Ginola said.

“If they are complaining about other things right now, it is probably because they don’t do enough towards them, towards the team, towards the way they play.

“I think you need to be patient, but patience is not a word used in football right now.”
