Tottenham have a £30m buyback clause on Kyle Walker-Peters

Tottenham ‘have a £30m buyback clause on Southampton full-back Kyle Walker-Peters’, that could be triggered amid contract stand-off and interest from Manchester United and Arsenal in England international

Tottenham reportedly have a £30million buyback clause on Southampton right-back Kyle Walker-Peters, that they could opt to trigger.

The 25-year-old, who joined Southampton from Spurs just two years ago, remains in contract with the Saints until the summer of 2025.

There has, however, been no progress on a contract extension for Walker-Peters with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United monitoring the situation as the defender is on their list of possible targets.

The two-cap England international was even linked with Everton last week as a target this summer, but despite firm admiration, their financial problems would make Goodison Park an unrealistic destination for now.

Despite interest from all of those clubs, Spurs are thought to be in the driving seat, as they put a £30 million buy-back clause in the agreement that saw Walker-Peters switch to Southampton for £12m back in 2020, according to The Athletic.

The same report suggests that Southampton are not actively looking to sell Walker-Peters, but they opt to cash in on him, if they cannot find any progress in the current contract stand-off between the two parties.

Walker-Peters was a stand-out performer for the Saints last season, even with the arrival of Tino Livramento last summer.

Although 23 of his 37 appearances last season actually came at left-back, which could make him a better option for Spurs boss Antonio Conte, knowing that he could deploy him on either side of the defensive line.

It remains to be seen whether the Italian has any interest in bringing Walker-Peters back to north London, especially given his full-back options already, and edging closer to signing Middlesbrough’s Djed Spence.

Spurs have been heavily linked with the 21-year-old defender for several weeks but now the move is ‘on the cusp’ of being complete.

The England Under-21 full-back impressed on loan at Nottingham Forest last season, helping them gain promotion to the Premier League.

Spence played as a right wing-back for Steve Cooper’s side, scoring two goals in 39 appearances, and put in several excellent performances which saw him named in the EFL and PFA Championship team of the season.

The youngster is expected to arrive at Hotspur Way today to undergo his medical ahead of the move.
