Defender Walker Zimmerman says the USA is targeting World Cup glory after advancing into the knockout stages of the tournament in Qatar.

The USMNT made the last-16 after a narrow 1-0 victory over Iran in the final Group B game on Tuesday and now faces the Netherlands on Saturday.

Zimmerman, who started the game as a substitute but came on to help his team defend against Iran pressure towards the end, suggested confidence is soaring in the camp.

Zimmerman and his team play the Netherlands on Saturday after defeating Iran 1-0 this week

‘We’re not finished yet,’ Zimmerman told CNN’s This Morning. ‘I think the narrative continues.

‘We’re still going to try and do that and accomplish our goal of winning the World Cup.

‘I think if we’re able to do that, we’re going to inspire a lot of young players, a lot of young Americans to pick up the sport and, hopefully, make them proud.’

The US heads into the game against the Netherlands with concern around star man Christian Pulisic.

Pulisic got hurt scoring the decisive goal against Iran but crashed into goalkeeper  Alireza Beiranvand in the process. He went off shortly after, at the halftime interval.

Zimmerman came on as a substitute in the Iran game to help USMNT hold on for victory

Pulisic is expected to be recovered to play but it is not yet guaranteed.

Should the US emerge victorious against the Netherlands, they will likely play Argentina next.

Lionel Messi’s side meets Australia in the last-16 and is strong favorite to win that game.
