Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is taking a firm stance with regards to the immediate future of Harry Winks, according to reports. The controversial 59-year-old oversaw a fruitful summer transfer window in which his biggest achievement was keeping hold of Harry Kane, who desperately tried to force through a move to Manchester City.

The Spurs forward informed Levy of his desire to leave at the beginning of the summer but was ultimately denied the opportunity to fight for Premier League titles at the Etihad Stadium.

City reportedly saw two nine-figure bids rejected by Spurs, with Kane eventually returning to Nuno Espirito Santo’s first-team picture after declaring that he would be staying in north London.

Levy was said to be vehemently opposed to the idea of selling his prized asset and was unwilling to consider any offers below the £150m mark.

It seems as though he went down a similar route with Winks during the summer, albeit at a lower price range.

The 25-year-old struggled to hold down a regular first-team spot last season but has already played four times in all competitions this time around.

He was selected to start the lacklustre 3-0 defeat at Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon and failed to impress before he was replaced on the hour mark.

Eagles midfielder Conor Gallagher managed to get the better of Winks on plenty of occasions, with the hosts controlling proceedings in midfield.

Winks was heavily linked with Aston Villa and Everton before last month’s all-important transfer deadline, but a move away from the capital failed to materialise.

Levy took a strong approach and demanded a minimum fee of £40m to let go of the midfielder, according to football.london.

The report claims that Villa and Everton considered Winks to be too expensive at this price and quickly ended their respective attempts to secure his services.

It is suggested that Levy is unlikely to revise his demands in the foreseeable future due to Winks, like Kane, being under contract until the summer of 2024.

It seems as though the Spurs chairman remains determined to stick to his values and work in the best interests of the club despite missing out on a monumental fee for Kane during the summer window.

Meanwhile, former England striker Kevin Phillips recently urged Winks to find a new club in search of regular minutes, suggesting that he would be a valuable addition to any Premier League side.

“I actually like Harry, I think he’s a quality player,” Phillips told Football Insider last month.

“He will do well for any side. Nuno has clearly made it clear that he’s not in his plans and there’s nothing he can do as a player after that.

“Obviously the deal will have to suit Tottenham, they won’t let him go for nothing. It’s best for all parties, the last thing he wants is to sit on the bench next year.

“He’s not a boy anymore, he needs that regular football and if he can’t get it at Tottenham then it’s time to go.”
