Tottenham and Man United monitoring Inter Milan's Alessandro Bastoni

Inter Milan fear Alessandro Bastoni could become a ‘problem’ as he continues to hold off on signing a new deal… with ‘Tottenham and Man United monitoring the Italian defender’ as he approaches the final 12 months of his contract

  • Tottenham and Manchester United are keen on Alessandro Bastoni
  • The Inter Milan defender is yet to renew his contract with the Italian giants

Inter Milan risk changing four of their back five ahead of the 2023-24 season.

The possibility of rebuilding a team without the leaders of the defence that guided the club to their historic Scudetto under Antonio Conte would be a serious challenge for Simone Inzaghi.

Milan Skriniar and Stefan de Vrij are fundamental players in terms of physical and technical strength, but Alessandro Bastoni is the defender who deserves more attention, as Inter cannot allow the future leader of the Italian national team to slip away.

Samir Handanovic has already given way to Andre Onana as Inter’s starting goalkeeper this season, while Skriniar and De Vrij are destined to leave on free transfers in the summer, and Bastoni’s contract expires in 2024.

The 23-year-old could now become a problem for Inter as he continues to hold off on signing a new deal, according to Tuttosport.

Inter Milan boss Simone Inzaghi could lose several key defenders this summer

Inter are concerned that they could have another case similar to the one they’ve had with Skriniar this year, where Bastoni runs down his contract, and the Italian club want to try and resolve his contractual situation as soon as possible.

It is very probable that if an agreement cannot be found by the end of this season, the sale of the player much appreciated by Conte’s Tottenham and Manchester United will be considered.

Bastoni’s renewal would appear simple, due to the wishes of the player and the club. But there is an economic agreement to be found, and it is far from straightforward.

The situation is constantly evolving and many things could still change before the summer.

Bastoni wants to become an icon of Inter, a team he is a fan of, but his wage demands of around €5m-per-year (£4.4m) have not been accepted yet.

Inter’s CEO Beppe Marotta is willing to negotiate, but the club wants to further cut the team’s salary budget, weighed down by the renewal of Marcelo Brozovic’s contract.

Added to this serious situation of dismantling the defence are the offers for Denzel Dumfries who is currently the only player considered expendable by Inter.

In the event of Dumfries being sold, the Nerazzurri could lose their entire starting defence in one summer.

Antonio Conte is a big admirer of Bastoni, who he coached during his time at Inter
