Tom Brady tells ITV presenter ‘what are you talking about’ after Birmingham win
Tom Brady was the star attraction as he visited his new team, Birmingham City, for the first time, and the NFL legend had an interesting exchange in his first TV interview. The seven-time Super Bowl champion has acquired a minority stake in the club, which plays in the Championship – the second tier of the English football pyramid.
The former New England Patriots superstar has been named chairman of the club’s new advisory board after being invited to invest by American owner Tom Wagner. And Brady visited England’s “Second City” for the first time on Saturday to watch the Blues’ dramatic late 1-0 win over Leeds United at St. Andrews.
After the game, he was interviewed by ITV to explain why the most decorated American Football player of all time has chosen to put his cash into an unfashionable former Premier League team that has been down on its luck for the past decade.
“Are you a fan of what we call ‘real football’ here?” Brady was asked by host Hugh Woozencroft, which prompted a humorous response from the 46-year-old, who retired at the end of the 2022 NFL season.
“Wait a minute, what are you talking about?” Brady joked. “There’s pretty good football in America too and I think for me, I’m a fan of sports. I’ve been playing sports since I was a kid. Been a big fan of your version of football for a long period of time too.
“It’s a global sport, I’ve enjoyed following it over a long period of time, I’ve had family involved in it over a long period of time so when Tom [Wagner] presented me with the opportunity it was a no brainer for me.
“It was a great day, obviously winning the game but seeing the experience of the fans and to turn out for this home game and see all the different renovations that Tom [Wagner] and the team that he’s put together has done has been very exciting.

“Things have happened kind of fast and furious but it’s been a great experience today and hopefully it’s the start of a very long-term meaningful impact to this community and sports fans around the world.”
Standing beside Brady for the interview, owner Wagner dismissed the suggestion that Brady’s involvement was merely a PR move, with the former quarterback set to support Birmingham’s playing operation in an advisory role as well as boosting the club’s marketing efforts.
“It is not a publicity stunt,” Wagner said. “Tom is actively engaged in the operation on the sporting side of the team and he’s going to play a meaningful role. The fans of other teams probably wish it is a publicity stunt. Unfortunately for them, it’s much more than that.”
