Todd Boehly could offer Cristiano Ronaldo a way out of United turmoil

Chelsea could offer Cristiano Ronaldo a way OUT of his Old Trafford nightmare in January, with owner Todd Boehly open to signing the veteran amid his close relationship with Portuguese super-agent Jorge Mendes

  • The Portuguese forward has been axed from the Manchester United first team
  • He was seen leaving the match against Tottenham early and refused to come on

Chelsea co-controlling owner Todd Boehly may be open to signing Cristiano Ronaldo in January.

Boehly has forged a close relationship with Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes and was interested in signing the 37-year-old from Manchester United in the summer, but found opposition from then Blues boss Thomas Tuchel.

But the American billionaire is set to re-visit his interest in Ronaldo in January as Manchester United look to offload the Portuguese.

It remains to be seen whether Tuchel’s replacement Graham Potter would be open to signing Ronaldo.

United boss Erik ten Hag has banished Ronaldo from first-team involvement after the forward stormed out of Old Trafford before the full-time whistle and refusing to come on as a substitute against Spurs.

Ronaldo has been available for transfer since the summer but there has not been any serious interest in the former Real Madrid star.

Ronaldo though looks destined for an Old Trafford exit in some form by January, with Ten Hag’s side continuing to thrive in his absence off the field.

It was against Spurs in his absence where United produced one of their best performances of the season in a 2-0 victory and they followed it up on Saturday with a visit to Chelsea where drew 1-1.

Ten Hag decided to leave Ronaldo out of his squad and while the performance wasn’t as great as the display put in against Spurs, United still grafted hard to snatch a stoppage time draw via a header from Casemiro.

Ronaldo has tended to start United’s Europa League games this season and it remains to be seen if Ten Hag restores the veteran to the squad in the home clash with Sheriff on Thursday.
