Chelsea chiefs reportedly think that Timo Werner could sensationally quit the club this summer – just 12 months after his move from RB Leipzig. Werner was hot property in the Bundesliga having established himself as one of the world’s best strikers.

Due to his relatively cheap release clause being set at £45million, a host of clubs were interested in signing him.

Liverpool were thought to be the frontrunners for his signature, while Bayern Munich were also extensively linked.

But Chelsea swooped in after Liverpool backed out of a move to meet the buyout fee in a deal heralded by many as a huge coup.

With the Blues also splashing big money on the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz and Ben Chillwell, expectations were high on what they could achieve this season.

There was a particularly high belief that Werner would hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge, but it’s proven to be a tough debut campaign in England.

He has looked a shadow of his former self, scoring just five goals in 27 Premier League matches.

The 25-year-old has plenty of time to rediscover his best form at Chelsea having committed his long-term future when he signed last summer.

But Football Insider claim that club officials are of the belief that Werner won’t honour his contract.

DON’T MISS

It is claimed that Chelsea expect Werner to be at the club no longer than two years.

And the report goes on to suggest the striker may even push to leave this summer and return to Germany.

A change in manager back in January appeared to work in favour for Werner with Thomas Tuchel taking charge.

After blanking in the 2-0 win over Wolves, Werner went on to play pivotal roles in consecutive victories over Tottenham, Sheffield United and Newcastle.

But he’s failed to make much of an impact since with no goals or assists in his last five appearances.

And pitch-side cameras picked up Tuchel berating the Germany international in Chelsea’s last match against Everton, suggesting some tension between Werner and the manager.

“Timo, how long are you staying on the left?” Tuchel reportedly shouted.

“You’re playing on the right! The last 15 mins you’ve only been on the left!

“Don’t you understand?”
