Anthony Martial has told Manchester United that is desperate to leave and Ralf Rangnick will not stand in his way. However, who could replace the Frenchman?
United are facing up to the fact that Martial has made up his mind about leaving the club and is eyeing a departure before the deadline shuts at the end of the month.
Several teams are interested in the forward, including Sevilla – who had a loan bid rejected by the Red Devils – as well as Newcastle, who are looking to splash the cash this January.
Rangnick has already stated that he will not stand in the Frenchman’s way as he plots his exit from Old Trafford, though they will not accept any offer on the table.
However, finding a club that can fully afford Martial’s wages might be hard to come by – meaning that United might have to accept a lower bid than they would like.
Finding a replacement might be tough, then, but Rangnick does not actually need to spend any cash to land a player who can fill the 26-year-old’s boots.
There are already three stars at United who could step up and take on his duties with two coming through the academy and another on the books.
That player is Amad Diallo, who signed at this time last year from Atalanta in Italy for around £25m.
At the time, there was a huge furore over the transfer with the Ivorian touted to become a superstar in the future.
It has been a slow start to his United career, though an early highlight included a vital goal against AC Milan in the Europa League.
A loan to Feyenoord fell through in the summer but training alongside Cristiano Ronaldo would have been incredible for his development and Amad could now become more important to the first-team for the second-half of the season.
Another player who appears to already have Rangnick’s trust is Anthony Elanga, who broke onto the scene last year when he scored on his full Premier League debut against Wolves.
The Sweden Under-21 international has made just four appearances this season but with Martial out the door his first-team chances might ramp up.
The 19-year-old has also been tipped to leave on loan while the winger has admitted he is ready to accept whatever decision United make on his short-term future.
The third who could step up is Shola Shoretire, who has wowed coaches with his incredible technical ability on the ball despite his young age.
At just 17, the youngster has already made his first-team debut for the Red Devils while also being fast-tracked through the age groups during his development.
To some at United, there is no doubt that Shoretire could become a superstar with the right training while Rangnick has experience with helping young players prosper.
