Thierry Henry says the ‘real Ronaldo’ was the only shirt he ever asked for
Thierry Henry has revealed that he only ever asked an opponent to swap shirts with him once during his illustrious career – with the man he controversially dubbed "the real Ronaldo".
The Arsenal legend was speaking to Jamie Carragher during CBS' brilliant TV segment 'In The Mixer' following Chelsea's 2-0 win over Lille in the Champions League on Tuesday.
After Henry said he thought it was "weird" when players used to try and swap shirts with him, Carragher asked the Frenchman if he'd ever done it himself.
"Yeah I did, Ronaldo," Henry revealed.
"R9 – the real Ronaldo."
"The real one? To call him the ‘real Ronaldo’ now when we’ve got Cristiano…" Carragher replied.
"Ronaldo is R9. Cristiano is Cristiano Ronaldo," the former Gunners icon responded.
The jibe will come as a blow to Manchester United fans, most of whom will think Cristiano has done enough to earn the 'real Ronaldo' moniker.
Henry and R9 played against one another three times during their career – all in 2006.
Henry inspired Arsenal to a famous victory over Ronaldo's Real Madrid in the Champions League, scoring a memorable solo goal at the Bernabeu to sink the Spanish giants, and a few months later he was the match-winner again as France knocked Brazil out of the World Cup.

Elsewhere, Henry revealed that the most hostile atmosphere he'd ever played in was for Monaco against Ligue 1 side Bastia, and said if he could be any current footballer in the world he'd be Kylian Mbappe.
Carragher chose Galatasaray and Mo Salah as his answers while Micah Richards said Stoke City – which more than amused his co-workers – and Mbappe.
