Teen fighting for life after shooting at football match as ultras open fire

A teenager has been left fighting for his life after a shooting at a fourth-division clash in Argentina.

A Buenos Aires derby between Club Lujan and Club Alem was suspended after 12 minutes when gunshots were heard outside the stadium. Local reports suggest ultras arrived in cars and opened fire at home supporters – who had gathered in pubs around the ground.

An 18-year-old has been left fighting for his life as a result of the shootings. While seven more were injured in the foray of bullets, local police responded with rubber bullets, while the injured were taken to Municipal Hospital Nuestra Senora de Lujan.

The AFA, Argentine FA said: "The Argentine Football Association strongly regrets and condemns the acts of violence that occurred today on the outskirts of the Municipal Stadium of Luján while the match between Club Luján and Leandro N. Alem.

"In turn, he reports that he is in contact with government authorities, security forces and justice to collaborate with the corresponding investigation.

"Finally, at the internal level of AFA, the respective reports will be submitted to the Disciplinary Tribunal for the intervention of its competence.

"The Argentine Football Association will continue to work day by day to continue fighting this kind of episode caused by a small group of misfits who only overshadow the true party generated by football."

Alem coach Horacio Fabregat told Ole: "We are inside the locker room, we have no way to get out because we don't have a microphone and we are waiting [to find out] how we are going to go home.

"The leaders [of the club] are with us and the people of Lujan are seeing how we can [leave]. I was the first to see that something was happening, I called the fourth referee and asked him to stop the game.

"From then on they asked us to get inside the field, they began to throw stones at us and a very loud bomb fell near the [dugout]. I know it was something serious that happened outside, but we don't know who what happened."
