Suarez attempted Harry Kane speciality on Van Dijk during Liverpool clash

Luis Suarez attempted an infamous Harry Kane move during Atletico Madrid's 3-2 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League last night but reds defender Virgil van Dijk was having none of it.

Aside from his reputation as a perpetual goalscorer, Kane has built up prominence as a crafty free-kick winner due to his constant backing into defenders to draw a foul and win his side a set-piece.

The tactic of crouching his back and falling underneath the opposing centre-half has come under scrutiny for being dangerous and reckless.

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O'Hara has described the tactic as "serious foul play" stating Kane should be booked or even face instant dismissal if he continues to perform the act.

It seems Kane's influence has now reached continental fame, with Atelti striker Luis Suarez trying to replicate Kane's signature move in the Champions League on Tuesday evening.

With Los Rajablancos 3-2 down, the former Liverpool forward came off the bench for the final 10-minutes with boss Diego Simeone making a quadruple change.

The 34-year-old was straight into the thick of the action throwing himself under Reds defender Virgil van Dijk when competing for the ball before barking at the referee to award a free-kick.

The decision didn't go the way he wanted with Daniel Siebert pointing the other way indicating the former Barcelona striker had fouled van Dijk with Suarez receiving a yellow card for dissent.

But fans on Twitter were quick to highlight the similarities between Suarez and Kane's devious tactic.

One said: "Luis Suarez doing the Harry Kane special on Van Dijk trying to undercut a defender as they jump for the ball and then feigning an injury. Dangerous type of play. Not surprising."

"Kane does what Suarez just did week in week out and gets the foul for it," said another.

While one supporter was concerned about how often players try and attempt the move: "Watching the replay and Virg is REALLY lucky not to get hurt there.

"He jumps for a header, Suarez tries to undercut him Harry Kane style, Virg comes down awkwardly on one leg (like Leno v Maupay). We REALLY need to clamp down on this."
