Graeme Souness has absolutely savaged Manchester United after insisting that he could still play against them despite being 68 years old.

The Liverpool legend made the claim ahead of tonight's massive clash between the two old Premier League rivals, though the Reds are miles ahead of their nemesis at the moment. United are just hoping to finish in the top four.

Whereas at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp has his sights set on an unprecedented quadruple having already won the Carabao Cup. Liverpool are in the FA Cup final, take on Villarreal in the Champions League next while Manchester City are just a point ahead in the Premier League.

But any dropped points from now until the end of the season could be detrimental and anything could happen when the big teams come face to face. Nevertheless, there is not much impressive about United at the moment – so much so that Souness reckons he could still have a go against them.

Speaking in the Sky Sports studio with Roy Keane and Kelly Cates, he said: "Liverpool’s success has been based on their midfield and the intensity in which they press with players like James Milner and Jordan Henderson, and that is why they have become so successful.

"They ( Manchester United ) get passed through too easily, they are not pressing collectively, and I look at Manchester United’s midfield, and I could play 45 minutes against them now because they play with no real intensity.

"It is very easy to point the finger to Harry Maguire and whoever his partner is and say, they aren’t doing their job, but they need help from their midfielders."

United are missing Rangnick's preferred duo in midfield Fred and Scott McTominay. It has led to a change in formation with the Red Devils opting to put three at the back – including just a second league start this season for Phil Jones.

Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba are the midfield duo while Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Elanga start further forward. Liverpool have a full-strength team with Luis Diaz starting up top with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.
