Sturridge’s body transformation rivals Torres – and UFC takes interest
Former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge may currently be without a club, but the 31-year-old is certainly putting the work in at the gym.
Sturridge has not played professionally since leaving Turkish club Trabzonspor by mutual consent in March 2020, when he was banned from football for four months after breaching betting rules.
The striker has been linked with a number of free transfers, but a move has yet to materialise.
A recent report from the Daily Mirror revealed that MLS sides DC United and Inter Miami are interested in signing Sturridge and it appears the player has been getting himself in top shape ahead of a potential return to the sport.
In a post on Instagram, Sturridge shared a snap of himself at the gym with the caption "Reinvention settings" and the UFC's official Europe account took interest, commenting a fist bump emoji.
Sturridge is not the only former Liverpool star to have put in the work at the gym in recent months, with Fernando Torres shocking fans earlier this year with his post-retirement look.
In pictures shared on social media, Torres is seen showing off his bulging biceps and wide shoulders while advertising an 'AW8' shirt.
Torres is currently working as Atletico Madrid B boss and has spoken in glowing terms about his time at Liverpool, telling talkSPORT: "Liverpool was the peak of my career.
"I arrived in a new city and didn't speak English. "Everybody liked me so much from the first day. I spent three and half years with the club. Only happy times, scored goals and won the European Championship with Spain.
"The relationship with fans and players was similar to Atletico Madrid. The players and supporters are really close and this is what I needed.

"I was ready when I left, though. When I left Atletico it was with the target of winning trophies. It was a difficult situation for the structure of the club at Liverpool.
"They were about to be sold. They needed five or six years to create that winning team. I didn't have that time. Liverpool was a huge club, though. But inside it was like a small family. From the workers and gardeners and the cooks. You could meet them every day."
