Steve Bruce’s beaming smile watching cricket one week after Newcastle exit
Former Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce has been pictured smiling with his son Alex as the pair watched England at the Twenty20 World Cup.
Bruce watched as England beat Australia by eight wickets in Dubai, just over a week on from leaving the Magpies after talks with the new owners.
The 60-year-old is a big cricket fan and delayed taking charge of Sheffield Wednesday in 2019 so that he could watch England's test series against the West Indies in the Caribbean.
Having left Newcastle earlier this month, Bruce is now in Dubai and watched the eight-wicket win over Australia on Saturday.
His son Alex tweeted a picture of him and his dad smiling as they watched England's dominant third win in the United Arab Emirates.
He captioned the upload: "What a great day, Dad and Lad’s day out, well done England."
Bruce has managed Alex at two different clubs, first after he progressed through the academy at Birmingham City and then after signing him for Hull City in 2012.
Alex signed for non-league Macclesfield in August after being without a club since leaving Scottish side Kilmarnock in February 2020.

Following their win over Australia, England face Sri Lanka in Sharjah on Monday in their penultimate match of the Super 12 group stage.
Bruce left St. James' Park on October 20 after two years in charge and following continuous speculation about his future at the club.
Following the takeover of the club at the start of the month, there had been mounting reports that Bruce was set to be replaced as manager.
These rumours were also fuelled by the club's slow start to the new season, with the club sat second bottom and without a win from eight matches.
Ultimately, Bruce left following the first game after the takeover, having taken charge of his 1000th match as a manager in the 3-2 home defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
His assistant Graeme Jones has been in interim charge since and oversaw last weekend's draw with Crystal Palace and the home loss to Chelsea on Saturday.
Former Everton and Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez is the current bookmakers' favourite to be Bruce's successor but the club have reportedly held talks with Portuguese coach Paulo Fonseca.
