Newcastle are set to show faith in Steve Bruce despite ongoing fears of relegation.

Bruce's strugglers failed to put ground between themselves and the Premier League relegation places as Leandro Trossard, Danny Welbeck and Neal Maupay found the net for Brighton as their own worries were eased.

The Magpies sit two points above Fulham with a game in hand following their latest poor showing, with the two sides set to face off at Craven Cottage on the final day.

While supporters have grown increasingly frustrated of both performances and results under Bruce this season, Mike Ashley is not planning on making any changes.

As reported by Sky Sports, there are no plans to end the tenure of Bruce.

The report adds that while Ashley is ‘very downbeat’ about the defeat against Brighton, he expects the manager and players to improve as the season comes to a close.

When asked if him staying at Newcastle was the best way forward for the club, the former Sunderland boss remained defiant this weekend.

He said: “Well I believe that, I’ve been around the block a long time. That experience, (I’ve been) trying to draw on it over the last few weeks in particular.

“So as I’ve said I’m not the type to just walk away from a bad defeat, but you’re going to have to ask others.”

Bruce added of his position at the club: “As I’ve always said that’s for other people to answer.

"The one thing that I won’t ever do is give up on anything because we’ve had a bad defeat.
