Tottenham’s recruitment staff were at Goodison Park on Tuesday night to scout out Everton’s Anthony Gordon.

However, their trip was largely fruitless, as the 21-year-old striker sat out the match against Brighton with an illness.

The Toffees lost 4-1 to pile even more pressure on top of under-fire boss Frank Lampard.

On New Year’s Day, it was confirmed that Gordon and Yerry Mina were feeling unwell, and likely to be absent over Everton’s busy post-festive period.

While Mina was an unused sub during their drubbing by the Seagulls, Gordon was absent from Lampard’s team entirely, as four different visitors got their names on the scoresheet before Demarai Gray’s stoppage time penalty for the hosts.

Gordon has been part of Everton’s plans since 2012, first in their youth team, and then making 64 appearances for the senior team, scoring seven goals.

Antonio Conte’s Tottenham are on the hunt for further attacking options to boost their hopes of a top-four finish in the Premier League, as well as their continued tilt at the Champions League.

As previously reported by Sportsmail, Spurs have lost their interest in wing back Pedro Porro, as they are not willing to pay £40m to activate the Sporting Lisbon player’s release clause.
